Well done to China for announcing the ban on ivory trade by end of 2017. It is long overdue and China’s example needs to be followed by other nations. However, this is no time for us to feel smug and or complacent. The murder of elephants for their tusks is driving elephants to the brink of extinction! However, it is not just the current trade in elephant tusks which is keeping the ivory trade going it is the continued trading of historic ivory from affluent western countries which continues to fuel the overseas demand for ivory.
